Throw a skip-ready jig first, then a spinnerbait if the water has color. After rain, bass often tuck deeper under dock shade, posts, and the first dark pocket out from the bank. On Lake Austin shoreline, the rising pressure and light wind from the south suggest a stable, decent dock bite, but the wind gusts near 20 mph mean you should favor the wind-blown side of docks and the shade line closest to the moving water.
First move
- Bait: 3/8 oz jig or a weedless soft jerkbait / wacky rig
- Color: green pumpkin or black/blue if the water is stained
- Target zone: skip to the back corners, cross braces, and shaded sides of docks
- Cadence: let it sink, then do short hops or a deadstick pause for 2–5 seconds
Why it should work
- Rain pushes food and bass tighter to shelter and shade.
- Docks give bass a roof when the water gets dirty or the light gets flat.
- A jig or soft plastic stays in the strike zone longer than a fast moving bait.

Adjust if
- Water is stained: switch to spinnerbait and slow-roll it past dock posts.
- Water is fairly clear: keep the jig, or use a wacky rig / soft jerkbait and let it fall naturally.
- Fish are shallow at first light: try the buzzbait on the outside edges of docks.
Backup plan
If the first 3–5 docks don’t get a bite, change angle before changing lure: cast from the opposite side so the bait enters the darkest water first.
