Throw a black/blue spinnerbait first, then a chatterbait. Around docks after rain, bass usually slide to the shady edges, dock walkways, corners, and any cleaner water seam where runoff brings food. With rising pressure and late spring warmth, they’ll often react best to a bait you can cover water with before you slow down.
First move
- Black/blue or white/chartreuse spinnerbait: slow-roll it past dock posts and let it bump wood or cables.
- If the water is more stained, switch to a chatterbait/bladed jig and swim it tight to the dock edge.
- If the docks are isolated or the fish won’t chase, follow up with a weightless or lightly weighted soft jerkbait skipped under the shade.
Why it should work
- Post-rain runoff concentrates bass near the best-looking edges and ambush cover.
- Cloud cover + 45% clouds makes moving baits productive, while the S wind at 6.5 mph can push bait toward one side of the lake.
- Sunrise to early morning is especially strong; after that, work the shadiest docks more carefully.

Lures to search for
- Spinnerbait: 3/8 oz, black/blue or white/chartreuse
- Chatterbait/bladed jig: 3/8 oz, paired with a paddletail trailer
- Soft jerkbait: green pumpkin or white, skipped weightless
- Squarebill crankbait: natural shad or craw colors for wood and dock posts
Adjust if
- Water is muddy: go darker and louder.
- Water is only slightly stained: use white/chartreuse or shad colors.
- Bass miss the bait: slow down and fish the darkest dock pockets.
Backup plan
Skip a soft jerkbait or finesse dice bait to the deepest shade line under the dock and let it sit longer than feels natural, then twitch twice and pause.
Start with the Blackwake Spinnerbait on the first shady dock edge, then make the same cast with a chatterbait if you don’t get bit.
