For bass around docks after rain, I’d start with a skip-friendly bait or a compact moving lure and let the conditions pick the winner 🎣
What to throw first
Because your weather shows falling pressure over the last 6 hours and a low-wind, clear-sky setup, there’s a good chance of a short feeding window. After rain, bass often slide tight to dock shade, corners, and the first hard cover they can ambush from. My first three choices:
- Flipping jig / dock jig – Best if the water has any stain or if the bass are tucked deep under the dock. Pitch to posts, rope, ladders, and the darkest shade.
- Chatterbait / bladed jig – Great first mover when bass are active after rain. Cover water fast, especially along the outside dock edges and shaded walkways. Try a steady retrieve with occasional pauses.
- Wacky rig or tube – If they’re ignoring moving baits, go slower and skip it deep under the dock. This is often the cleanup bait when fish won’t chase.
How I’d fish the docks
- Focus on wind-blown banks first if the rain stirred bait up; even a light SSE wind can nudge forage toward one side.
- Hit the darkest shade: inside corners, post clusters, floating dock edges, and any dock with brush, cables, or seawalls nearby.
- After rain, bass may be a little less boat-shy, so make a few extra long skips under the dock before moving on.
- If the water is still clear, downsize and go more natural. If it’s stained, use black/blue, green pumpkin, or white/chartreuse depending on baitfish activity.

Best “first cast” order
If I were there, I’d go: Chatterbait → Jig → Wacky rig / tube → Frog if the cover is nasty
That gives you a fast search bait, a bottom/cover bait, and a finesse bailout. Keep it simple, fish the shade like it owes you money, and you’ll be in business 😄
