Start with a white/chartreuse spinnerbait or a black/blue jig around the shadiest dock corners and dock posts. After rain, bass often slide to the inside edges, corners, and deepest shade to ambush bait washed in, and today’s overcast sky plus light wind makes moving baits work well. Because pressure is rising, keep it simple and cover water first.
First move
- Spinnerbait: 3/8 oz, white/chartreuse, slow-roll it past posts and let it tick cover.
- If they won’t chase, switch to a jig or wacky/weightless soft jerkbait and skip it under the darkest dock shade.
- Cadence: cast past the dock, let it sink, then steady retrieve with a few pauses. On the jig, use short hops and a longer dead-still pause.
Why it should work
- Late spring bass around docks are often shallow and aggressive.
- Overcast helps fish stay up and roam.
- After rain, bass key on shade + bait wash-in + slightly stained water.
