For bass around docks after rain, I’d start with a bladed jig (chatterbait) or a swim jig if the water has a little stain and you want a lure that covers water fast 🎣. Rain usually pulls bait and bass shallow, and docks become even better because they offer shade, ambush points, and clean edges when the bank gets muddy. With the current weather showing a strong falling pressure trend and light wind from the south, you’ve got a solid feeding window before the next front-like slowdown. The sun is high and the forecast is stormy, so fish the shady sides of docks, corners, and the first protected slips first.
My first three casts:
- Chatterbait across the outside dock posts and dock edges.
- Wacky rig or stick bait skipped under the darkest shade pockets.
- Jig or tube for slower, more precise targets like dock walkways, posts, and cross braces.
If the water is dirtier than expected, go with white, chartreuse, or black/blue on the moving bait. If it’s only lightly stained, green pumpkin and bluegill tones are money. After rain, bass often suspend just off the shade line, so make long casts and let the bait bump posts or deflect off wood and cables.

Lure order I’d fish
- Chatterbait for search mode
- Wacky rig for skipped precision shots
- Jig for big bites around the thickest shade
- Tube for pressured fish
- Topwater frog only if there’s heavy cover and low light
One little guide rule: if you can see the shade line, fish it like it’s a wall. Bass love to sit right where light turns to dark. Work the outside first, then skip deeper under each dock until you find the hot one. Tight lines — docks after rain can be absolute bass candy 😄
