For bass around docks after rain, I’d start with a compact, weedless moving bait or a skip-friendly jig 🎣. After rain, bass often slide tight to dock shade, posts, and the first depth break nearby. If the water is slightly stained, a bait that thumps or displaces water helps them find it; if it’s muddy, go slower and bulkier.
What to throw first
- Chatterbait / bladed jig — my first pick when the water has a little color and bass are active. It covers water fast and lets you hit dock edges, posts, and corners efficiently.
- Jig — when fish are tighter to cover or won’t chase. Pitch it to the darkest shade, let it fall on semi-slack line, then hop it once or twice.
- Frog — if the docks have mats, grass, or nasty shoreline cover nearby. It’s also a great option when bass are prowling shallow after warm rain.
- Skip bait under docks — a worm, tube, or finesse creature if the bite is finicky. Skipping gets your bait where the fish actually live.
Best docks-after-rain approach
- Focus on shade, posts, rope lines, and the deepest dock sections first.
- Fish the upwind/downwind side of the dock if rain also brought wind; bait gets pushed there.
- Make multiple angles: outside edge, middle opening, and the back shadow line.
- If the rain cooled the water a lot, slow down and use a lighter, subtler presentation.

Quick lure order of operations
- Start: chatterbait
- If they miss/ignore it: jig or tube
- If they’re shallow and aggressive: frog or topwater
- If they’re tucked deep in shade: skip a finesse bait
Given your conditions — late spring, mainly clear, light wind, and rising pressure after rain — fish may be a bit less aggressive than during the falling-pressure window, so I’d lean slower and more precise around the shadiest docks and deeper dock ends. Keep your casts accurate, work the dark spots, and don’t leave a good dock too quickly. Tight lines — you’re fishing the right game plan!
