Throw a skip-friendly jig or soft jerkbait first, targeting the darkest shade pockets, dock posts, and the first open lane off the bank. After rain, bass often pull tighter to docks where the water is a touch stained and bait gets pinned. With late spring warmth and your area’s rising pressure plus clear-to-bright conditions, start with a slower, more accurate presentation under the shady cover.
First move
- 1/4–3/8 oz jig in green pumpkin or brown/blue
- Skip it deep under the first 2–3 dock sections
- Let it fall on a semi-slack line, then do 2 short hops and a pause
- If the dock has brush, cables, or thick shade, keep the bait on bottom longer
Why it should work
- After rain, bass often use docks as ambush cover and shade.
- Rising pressure can slow a bite, so a precise finesse bait usually beats a fast-moving search bait at first.
- On a bright, clear evening, the shadiest, deepest water under docks is usually best.
