Throw a green-pumpkin or black-blue jig first, pitched tight to the shady dock posts and the darkest corners. After rain, bass often slide under docks for shade and calmer water, and with rising pressure plus heavy cloud cover they’ll usually hold close rather than roam.
First move
- Bait: 3/8 oz jig with a craw-style trailer, or a wacky rig / soft jerkbait if the water got clearer.
- Target zone: shady sides, cross braces, float covers, and the first deep pocket under the dock.
- Cadence: let it fall on a semi-slack line, then give it 1-2 short hops and pause. If that misses, skip it farther back and slow down.
Why it should work
- After rain, docks give bass shade, slightly cleaner water, and ambush cover.
- In your conditions, the cloud cover helps fish stay shallower, but the wind gusts over 20 mph mean you should fish the most protected docks first.
- If the water is stained, a thumping or vibrating lure can call fish out; if it’s clearer, go more subtle.

Next cast: skip a 3/8 oz green-pumpkin jig under the shadiest dock you can reach and let it sit for a full count of three before the first hop.
