Throw a skipping jig or a black/blue or green pumpkin chatterbait first. After rain, bass around docks usually slide tight to shade, posts, and the first clean water they can reach. With rising pressure and mainly clear water, start with a bait that gets under the dock fast and moves enough water to get noticed.
First move
- Skipping jig: 3/8 oz, green pumpkin or black/blue, skip it deep under the darkest dock corners.
- If the water has a little stain, switch to a spinnerbait or chatterbait and slow-roll it past posts and shade lines.
- If bass are suspended under floats or walkways, try a weightless soft jerkbait or wacky rig and let it fall on slack line.
Why it should work
- Docks concentrate shade and bait after rain.
- Late spring means bass are often shallow and aggressive, but post-rain they usually want a tighter, more precise presentation.
- A south wind at 6.5 mph is light enough for a clean skip, and sunrise/sunset are your best dock windows.

Backup plan
If they won’t eat the jig, downsizing to a wacky rig or small underspin is the next move. Start on the shadiest dock with the cleanest water and the deepest water access nearby, then work outward.
