Throw a black/blue jig or green pumpkin Texas rig first, and skip it tight to the shady dock posts and the darkest corners. After rain and with falling pressure, bass often slide shallow and sit on the best shade/cover. If the water is stained, start with a bait that pushes water and is easy to find, then slow down only if you get no reaction.
First move
- Black/blue jig with a craw trailer, or a 3/8 oz spinnerbait if you want to cover water first
- Work it along dock edges, post lines, and the first deep shade pocket
- Retrieve: slow roll, pause, let it fall, then hop it once or twice

- Overcast + rain stain makes bass less spooky around docks
- The best bites usually come from the shade side and the inside corners where bait washes in

Adjust if
- If the water is very muddy, switch from jig to spinnerbait or buzzbait
- If the fish follow but won’t eat, use a wacky rig or weightless soft jerkbait and let it sit longer
- If you’re getting only small fish, upsize to the 4.75” twitch jerkbait
Backup plan
After 15–20 casts with no bite, move to the next dock with the deepest shade, brush, or a steeper drop-off and repeat the same cast path.
