Throw a 3/8 oz spinnerbait or chatterbait first, skipping it tight to dock posts and shade pockets, then follow with a wacky rig or jig if fish won’t chase. After rain, bass often slide to the darkest, calmest water under docks and the slight stain helps moving baits get bit. With rising pressure and a south wind, keep your casts close and work the bait just fast enough to tick cover without hanging up.
First move
- Spinnerbait: white/chartreuse, 3/8 oz, slow-roll it past dock corners and into slips.
- Chatterbait: green pumpkin or white, keep it near the bottom around pilings.
- If the water is clearer than expected, switch to a soft jerkbait and let it glide on pauses.
Why it should work
- Late spring bass are shallow and dock-oriented.
- Light rain / post-rain stain can make bass less spooky and more willing to eat moving baits.
- Cloud cover around 47% helps keep fish shallow longer than bright sun.

Adjust if
- Dirty water: go louder/brighter, burn the spinnerbait.
- Clear water: downsize and skip the wacky rig or soft jerkbait.
- No bites in 10–15 casts per dock: move to the next dock shade line instead of grinding.
Backup plan
Skip a wacky-rigged stickworm under the darkest dock and deadstick it 2–5 seconds after each fall.
