Throw a green pumpkin jig or black/blue jig first, skipping it under the darkest dock shade, beside posts, and to the back corners. After rain, bass often slide tight to protected dock shade and the first good fall bite is usually a bottom-contact bait worked slow.
First move
- 3/8 oz jig with a compact craw trailer
- Skip it under the dock, let it sink on a semi-slack line, then do 2 short hops and a pause
- If the water is stained, switch to black/blue; if it’s clearer, use green pumpkin
Why it should work
- Your weather is overcast, with steady pressure and a light SSE wind, so bass should be comfortable moving shallow and staying on docks.
- Late spring means fish are often around shade, bluegill spawn zones, and dock shade lines.

Products and lures to look at
- Blackwake Spinnerbait — good if you want to cover water along dock edges and wind-blown sides
- Davy Jones’ Buzz — only if fish are busting shallow early/late
- Bass Mafia Custom Balsa Squarebill Crankbait — for banging dock posts and deflecting off cover
- 4.75” Twitch Jerkbait — for skipping and twitching under docks when fish won’t chase
- Bass Mafia Larry Spoon — not first choice for docks, but useful if fish are suspended off the ends
- FONMANG 126Pcs Fishing Lures or PLUSINNO 137Pcs Tackle Box — if you want a starter kit with basic dock-friendly pieces
Backup plan
If the jig gets no bites in 15–20 minutes, switch to a wacky rig or underspin and fish the same shade pockets with a slow fall and dead-stick pause. Start on the shadiest dock closest to deeper water and make your first cast there.
